Wafer Paper Cakes by Stevi Auble: A Book Review and an Easy Tutorial

Wafer Paper Cakes Book by Stevi Auble

Wafer Paper Cakes is a book by Stevi Auble (IG@heytherecupcake). Published in 2017, it is good to have as a start in experimenting with wafer paper as a medium of cake decorating. Wedding cakes benefit from using wafer paper flowers because of its flexibility, light-weight and production speed.

I will attempt one of the twelve designs shown in the book, with a twist and additions of my own.

Tropical Textures

The design is Tropical Textures. It uses tropical foliage such as monstera leaves, palm fronds and butterflies cut-outs from wafer paper. All templates are provided. There are 4 pages of templates at the end of this Wafer Paper Cakes book.

Note that this design is purely textures, only a part of Decorations category. There is much more that I’m not able to cover in one post. Therefore, the possibility of doing another design from this book is high.

My Pink Peony + Monstera

Pink Monstera and Peony Cake

The pink wafer paper is dusted with petal dust technique. I replace palm fronds and butterflies with smaller monstera cut-outs from a cookie cutter and peony flowers are from a different technique.

For the cut-outs to stand upright, I use 0.65mm wafer paper. For peony, I use the 0.35mm, as with all wafer paper flowers. My other post on Where I Buy Wafer Paper.

Mix and match your own designs with the help of templates from this Wafer Paper Cakes book.
